Optionally, add email addresses for colleagues you would like to receive the CSV report; after entering each email address you must hit the Add button.
This is the most important rule to keep up to date. If a competitor is using your Trademarked brand term in their ad copy, you can report it to the Publisher who will then take down their advert. Setup:
- Search Terms: key terms you want to monitor
- Competitors: exclude your domain, any affiliates or re-sellers who are allowed to use your brand
- Ad Text: any different variations of your Trademarked brand term
Check what you're monitoring using Top Ads
There is a useful check that you can do periodically using Top Ads to ensure you are monitoring the correct Terms and Competitors. Go to Adverts > Top Ads > Whole Market > apply the following filters:
- Filter by Ad Text that contains your brand.
- Exclude competitors who are allowed to use your brand terms.
This is a rule to monitor who is bidding on your brand. Setup:
- Search Terms: key terms you want to monitor
- Competitors: exclude your domain, any affiliates or re-sellers who are allowed to bid on your brand
If there is a competitor who comes us repeatedly then you might want to have a separate rule specifically to monitor them. Similarly, if you have entered a gentleman's agreement with a competitor to not bid on each other's brand terms then you might want to set up two separate rules, one to monitor that they are abiding by the agreement and another to ensure that you are not accidentally breaking the agreement bidding on their terms (especially if you work in a larger team or have an agency managing your accounts).
Affiliate / Re-seller Management
If you have a contractual agreement with certain sites then you can track them to ensure they do not appear on banned terms and also that they are abiding by any rules regarding ad messaging and recommended pricing. Setup:
- Search Terms: key terms you want to monitor
- Competitors: list of affiliates or re-sellers who you wish to monitor
- Ad Text: any text that they are not allowed to use in their advert such as 'Cheap' or 'Discount' that might be against your agreement
