Google have been more aggressively identifying misspellings and treating them as if the search was for the correct spelling. Google Adwords Keyword Planner returns the same volume of monthly searches for the correct spelling and the misspelling, confirming that they are treating them as the same. This is the data that Adthena uses to label misspellings and is checked on monthly basis. Knowing what misspellings are from Adthena's view will help you understand the application and explain any lost terms or data changes.
Types of misspellings
Misspelling Type 1
Search for 'car insurants' and Google will 'show results for car insurance'.
Any of these terms (and similarly, those where Google shows 'did you mean') will be automatically flagged by Adthena and excluded from all accounts since the release from August 19th.
Misspelling Type 2
Search for 'car in surance' or 'car.ins' or 'fridge/freezer', the results for these do not have 'showing results for', but Google ignoring these characters. We want to ignore these terms for all accounts so that users do not have to do this per account.
Misspelling Type 3
Adthena has identified the term as a misspelling, but it is marked as a Priority Term. This will still appear in accounts. We will try to provide a list of these or at least flag accounts where this is a particular issue.
Note that Infringement Reports are not affected, so if a client wants to track competitors appearing on their misspellings then they can add them to infringement rules as today.
1. Can I upload misspellings into the Adthena Application?
Not at this time. Since Google will not allow anyone to bid on a misspelling, Adthena will not be able to show insights for such terms. Any that were uploaded prior to September 2017 will retain their 'misspelling' label.
2. When I upload multiple terms into a group, how do I know missing terms are misspellings?
When terms can't be uploaded we'll provide you with a downloadable error report
