If you're expecting to see a competitor in your Adthena reports but can't, there are several possible reasons:
The Competitor is Not Running Paid Ads
To check if a competitor is running ads:
- Go to Adverts > Top Ads in your account.
- Click Competitors from the filter options and search for the competitor's name and select Apply.
- If no results appear, they haven’t run paid ads in the last 30 days.
The Competitor Ran Ads Outside the Selected Time Frame
To check:
- Use the date picker to adjust the report range (e.g., 6 months).
- Look at the Display Length column for the last ad date. If it says "More than one week ago," the competitor ran ads outside the current report window.
Adthena Deems the Competitor as Not Relevant
A competitor is considered relevant if they consistently have both inward and outward overlap of at least 1.5%. Competitors below this threshold won’t appear automatically in the app, but you can view their data by adding them as a Named Competitor, and the data will be available within a few days.
Competitors who don’t meet certain relevance criteria may not appear by default. There are a couple ways to check:
Market Share
- Go to Market Share in your account.
- Click Competitors from the filter options and search for the competitor's name as well as your own domain and select Apply.
- If their Share of Clicks or Share of Spend is low, they may be excluded from reports automatically.
All Competitors
- Go to All Competitors in your account.
- Search for the specific competitor and check the inwards and outwards overlap.
- If less than 1.5% in either column, you can add them as a named competitor and they will appear in the application within a few days.
Other Reasons
- The competitor isn’t appearing on the first page of the Google Search Results (SERP).
- They have fewer than 10 impressions in the selected time frame.
- The competitor is advertising on a different domain (e.g., .co.uk vs. .com).
- The competitor has additional audience/location targeting applied.
