Platform Performance by Industry
This chart provides a broad comparison of how two different tools perform across a range of industries. It highlights two main aspects: how often each tool includes outside references, and how many distinct sources each one draws from.
Each industry is listed along the middle, with the two metrics displayed on either side so users can see general differences in behavior. It highlights how performance can vary depending on the topic area, and to give a sense of how each tool approaches sourcing and coverage across different fields.
Data is broken down into the following categories:
- How often external links appear: The percentage of prompts that include external links, shown by industry and platform (ChatGPT vs. Perplexity).
- Unique Domains: The total number of different domains referenced, broken down by platform and industry.
Industry Analysis
To view performance data and insights for a specific industry, select it from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, select "All Industries" to see aggregated results across all sectors.
Which Engine Provides More External Sources shows the minimum, average, and max number of links we see per prompt response.
How many links appear on each query result shows the percentage of queries - broken down by both search engines - that include links, along with the number of links returned.
Most visible domains across all industries shows which domains appear most frequently, across all platforms/industries.
Top Domains: Same data broken out by platform (ChatGPT vs Perplexity).
For each domain, we report:
- Unique Appearances: Count of how many responses the domain appeared in (counted once per response).
- Total Appearances: Count of every time the domain appeared in a response (if it appears twice in one response, we count both).
- Average Position: Average ranking position when the domain is cited.
- By Section: Split by citations vs website cards (cards include visual product tiles with outbound links).
The above breakdown can be viewed by selecting the ‘more data’ option.
Domain Performance Analysis
This table shows key metrics for any domain that we have seen appear during our indexes.
Specific domains can be searched for to analyse their performance across the selected industries.
Performance Score – A composite score (0–100) that balances how often a domain appears with how strong its placement is. The Performance Score is determined using the below metrics:
- Visibility – Measures how often a domain appears, based on its unique appearances and normalised against the most visible domain.
- Ranking Quality – Represents the average position where the domain appears, normalised to allow comparison across different search engines.
Visibility Rank – The relative rank of domains within each search engine, based on unique appearances.
Unique Appearances – How many separate responses the domain appeared in (counted once per response).
Total Appearances – How many times the domain appeared overall, including multiple mentions in the same response.
Average Position – The average ranking of the domain when it is cited.
