Why don't I see Auto Takedown in my account?
Auto Takedown is not available by default. Before Adthena can act on your behalf regarding trademark matters with Google, you must first provide authorization, as required by Google. If you’re interested in this feature, please contact your Account Manager.
Multi-trademark monitoring
You can monitor multiple trademarks simultaneously. Contact your Adthena Account Manager for pricing details.
Find your trademark details
Google checks the registry for the jurisdiction in question or will use TMView. World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) registrations are also accepted, as long as the registration reflects a grant of rights in the claimed jurisdiction(s). Adthena aligns with Google's identification method to minimize the likelihood of submission delays arising from incorrect trademark details. We have found the WIPO website to be the most user-friendly platform for verifying global trademark information.
WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property policy, services, information and cooperation. National and regional intellectual property offices have created a number of online trademark databases and have made them accessible to the public through their websites. WIPO has facilitated the access to these databases with a view to the prevention of domain name disputes. The goal is to allow any person wishing to register a domain name in the gTLDs or ccTLDs to perform a trademark search, using this site, in the existing on-line trademark databases.
Step 1 - Search database
- Go to WIPO > Global Brand Database > Advanced Search
- Type = Brand Name > Search strategy = Select 'is matching exact expression' > Brand name = insert the brand name > Click '+ ADD A ROW'
- Type Feature > Select 'Combined', 'Figurative' and 'Word', > Click '+ ADD A ROW'
- Type Status > Select 'Registered' > Click '+ ADD A ROW'
- Type = Type > select 'Trademark' > Click '+ ADD A ROW'
- Type = Designation country > Search strategy = 'all of' > Designation country = add country where your trademark is registered (should match your Adthena account national location) > Click '+ ADD A ROW'
- [If known] Type = Nice Classification* > Search strategy = 'all of'
Step 2: Confirm Nice Classification
If known, skip this step.
WIPO's Nice Classification system is used in intellectual property law to organize and classify trademarks and designs. Its primary purpose is to categorize trademarks and service marks. Google’s response to trademark issues typically hinges on the nature of your trademark and its relevance to the goods or services being infringed within Google’s ecosystem. This is why it’s important that your trademark's Nice Classification is relevant to your Adthena account's market focus.
In this example, Adthena holds a single registered trademark in the USA, which spans three Nice Classifications.
For businesses with multiple trademarks across various Nice Classifications, it may be helpful to export the results into an Excel file for easier management and analysis.
- Download results into an excel sheet.
- Go to column entitled 'Nice classification' and remove duplicates.
- Go to WIPO Nice Classification Class Headings.
- Review each Nice Classification, identify the relevant categories, and select the most suitable trademark. If a trademark spans multiple relevant Nice Classifications, prioritize those that cover the broadest range of advertisements.
If you need assistance identifying the most suitable trademark registrations, our support team is happy to help at support@adthena.com.
Step 3: Confirm Type of Mark
Google will accept the following trademark types:
- Word.
- Figurative - Must include a WIPO 541 classification, signifying that the mark is reproduced in standard characters.
- Combined - Must include a WIPO 541 classification, signifying that the mark is reproduced in standard characters.
Authorize Adthena
Google requires that you provide us with a signed statement on your company letterhead that confirms that Adthena is authorized to act on your behalf regarding trademark matters. The authorization should not include conditions such as an expiry date, territorial restrictions or other limitations. When you’re ready to move forward, just contact support@adthena.com and our team will send you an authorization form via DocuSign.
