Navigate to Exclusions
To access the Exclusions section, click the Settings icon located in the top-right corner of your Adthena account, then select Exclusions from the dropdown menu.
Ignored Competitors
If the system identifies a competitor with overlapping search terms that you don't consider a real competitor, you can add them to the Ignored Competitors group. Once added, they will no longer appear in your data, including historical data.
Ignore a Competitor
Click Edit next to Ignored Competitors to make changes. The All Competitors toggle displays all competitors in your account, while the Ignored Competitors list shows those already included in your group. To ignore competitors simply:
- Use the search box to filter by a specific competitor and add them to the Ignored group.
- To remove competitors from the group, navigate to the Ignored Competitors toggle and choose to Remove or Remove All.
- To add more competitors to the ignored competitors group you can navigate to the All Competitors toggle and choose to Add or Add all.
- To bulk add competitors to ignore, you can upload a CSV file. Just make sure the file is formatted correctly, as outlined in the tooltip next to the upload icon.
Behavior
- The Ignored Competitor filter will only remove terms where the competitor appeared alone. It will also hide the competitor from Search Term Detail data and averages. For example, if three competitors appear on a search term and you exclude one, the term will still appear, but only with two competitors.
- If many competitors from a particular industry are in this category, it might be better to exclude a specific search term instead. This can help prevent unrelated competitors from showing up in your account.
- If you’ve ignored a competitor but still see them in data from the past 30 days, it's because we only update competitors during the weekly or monthly data rebuild. Weekly data is updated every Sunday and available by Monday. Monthly data is updated on the 1st and available on the 2nd.
Ignored Search Terms
Adding search terms you’re not interested in to Ignored Search Terms helps Adthena learn and adapt more quickly. Once a term is added to the Ignored list, Adthena will stop tracking it, and it will no longer appear in your reports.

- Another way to bulk ignore search terms is by typing a keyword (e.g., "ai") into the search box. All related search terms will appear, and you can choose to Add All to ignore them in one go.
Additional Ways to Ignore a Search Term
You can also ignore search terms in two other areas of Adthena: Search Term Detail and Search Term Opportunities.
-
In Search Term Detail:
Go to the left-hand navigation menu, click on the Search Terms tab, and select Search Term Detail from the dropdown. To remove a term from your account data, find it in the list and click the ‘X’ in the Ignore column. -
In Search Term Opportunities:
From the left-hand navigation menu, click Search Terms, then choose Search Term Opportunities. Scroll to the bottom and click Review All Search Terms. Select a term from the table, then click Ignore Search Term to exclude it.
Rejected Opportunities
When you add a search term to Rejected Opportunities, Adthena will stop suggesting it in the Search Term Opportunities section. Rejecting irrelevant terms helps Adthena provide more accurate and relevant opportunity recommendations. Any search terms you've rejected from the Search Term Opportunities page will appear here.
